Biography

I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The University of Queensland, working with Prof. Zhifeng Bao. My research focuses on the intersection of AI and database systems — both AI4DB (using AI and machine learning to advance database internals such as learned indexes, cardinality estimation, and query optimisation) and DB4AI (designing data systems that support agentic and LLM-powered data processing over heterogeneous data).

I received my PhD from RMIT University in 2025, advised by Prof. Zhifeng Bao and Prof. Shane Culpepper. I obtained my bachelor's (2017) and master's (2020) degrees from Wuhan University, where I was advised by A/Prof. Yuwei Peng.

My work addresses foundational challenges in query optimisation, indexing, and cardinality estimation, and increasingly in agentic data processing. I emphasise system-aware, scientifically grounded methods that combine formal analysis, empirical validation, and real system implementation — techniques that are not only novel, but scalable, robust, cost-efficient, and deployable under production-grade constraints. My research has led to systems deployed in industry, including a trajectory data engine in Alibaba Cloud and collaboration on the query optimiser of the TiDB HTAP database.
